1. Heating System Doesn't Ignite
Your heating unit won't blow warm air without a "lit" pilot burner. While it is a tiny flame, the pilot burner has the important role of lighting the gas from the burner to generate warm air.
If you realize your heating system is not igniting, approach it with caution to check the pilot lit. Sometimes, relighting it (with caution) will solve the problem. In other circumstances, you may have more serious issues that need remediation.
Start with a smell test. If you smell gas, do not try to relight the pilot fire. Call your local Cleveland heating professional.
2. Heater Does Not Blow Warm Air
You know if your furnace is not working, if you turn it on and warm air does not blow. This might be an issue with the pilot burner. In addition, you may have a blocked filter or a wrong thermostat setting.
Ensure that your thermostat is set to "heat," and the temperature level is high enough to activate the heating system. Check the air filter. You will want to change it if the filter is old or dirty.
If those steps do not set off warmed air when your heating system comes on, it's time to call a Cleveland home heating professional.
3. Blower is not Functional
If you listen closely to your furnace "when it is on", and you do not hear air blowing through the vents, you may have an issue. Do the following test to troubleshoot
- Check the breaker to ensure the heater has power
- Readjust the thermostat temperature level
- Your thermostat fan should be set
If the fan setup does not trigger the blower, you may require repair work for the blower motor.
4. Furnace Cycles on and off
A clogged filter could be the culprit for a furnace that repeatedly cycles on and off. Replace the filter and adjust the thermostat setting to make sure the temperature is not too high. Call your Cleveland heating professionals if the furnace continues to cycle off and on rapidly.
5. Temperature Is Inconsistent
Is one room colder than the others? Check the vents. A closed or blocked vent won't allow the furnace to circulate air effectively through your home.
